Marketing Fundamentals: Intro

by Dan Walsh

When I was promoted to my first marketing position, I had no idea what I was doing. I had to get up to speed fast. I read book after book and scoured the web for all the resources I could find. Unfortunately, everything I found was behavioural psychology dressed up as “marketing”. That’s all good stuff, to be sure, but none of it explained the business or strategy. There was no foundation. It took years before I even found a solid definition of what marketing actually is. Now that I have almost a decade of experience in the field, I can provide a resource that gives more than “ain’t it neat” advice that doesn’t get the new practitioner very far. This is my intro course to marketing. I’ll cover all the basics through a series of posts and provide a solid foundation from which anyone can springboard their marketing efforts. This is the guide I wish I had when I was starting out.
